The Diaspora Support Initiative (Z) Ltd (DSi) and the Zambian Association of New England (ZANE) in USA have signed a memorandum of understanding to provide services to Zambians living and working in that part of the area that covers six states. As part of the agreement, DSi will offer services that include property management, project management, business services etc, among other professional services they offer.

ZANE was established in 2008 with a mission to empower Zambians in the area and it represents more than 200 families comprising of working professionals, students, workers and business owners.

Most recently DSi has been attending consultative meetings with the Ministry of Foreign affairs in order to assist the government with formulating a Diaspora policy. They have also been representing various Zambians in different countries in managing their affairs at home.

The two organizations have realized how important the relationship is and it has potential to impact local economies and communities. In the past, many Zambians living abroad have been facing challenges in getting their interests taken care of. This partnership presents a great opportunity for Zambians in both countries as a source of economic and social development. Many Zambians living or working abroad have a strong connection to Zambia and they want to invest in their homeland.

Signing the MOU on behalf of Zane, President Mr. Kwanga Kaweza and Vice Mr. Dalitso Mwanza both feel this as an extension of independence for Zambians living and working abroad. “This is a millstone achievement for our growing organization and we are very excited to engage DSi. We have worked tirelessly to serve this community and we want the best for them. We have laid a foundation for our members and community and now it’s now up to them to take advantage of this great initiative. Furtherer more this relationship may create other opportunities for local Zambians as well.”

Speaking on behalf of DSi, Logan Nyasulu, who is the DSi Chief Executive Officer, expressed satisfaction that this was the beginning of a very useful partnership that had the potential of increasing and formalizing diaspora remittances to Zambia, and may well serve as a model that could be replicated in many other countries. He was also delighted to be part of a formal response, put in place by ZANE and DSi, to address the frustration of many Zambians living abroad who have fallen prey to unscrupulous individuals who took advantage of them. This partnership is practical channel that allows DSi to truly inspire investments to Zambia.
